AIDS PAC FAQ Below you will find the answers to these frequently asked questions.
What is the American AIDS Political Action Committee? The American AIDS PAC is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan entity that supports a progressive approach to the American AIDS crisis by the federal government. ^TOPDoes AIDS PAC duplicate any other organizations that are active in the fight against AIDS? No. We are the only Political Action Committee entirely devoted to responding to the AIDS crisis. AIDS PAC will give more political strength to progressive AIDS policy. Some existing AIDS organizations provide AIDS policy advocacy, but are prohibited by their tax-exempt status from endorsing and supporting political candidates. Our efforts will empower and enhance the efforts of other organizations that have been leading the fight against AIDS. ^TOPHow is AIDS PAC managed? There is a volunteer Board of Directors which sets the direction and policy of AIDS PAC. Members of the Board include persons from the political, business, and health care communities. Many of the members are veterans of the fight against AIDS. AIDS PAC has contracted an experienced and competent firm which provides for day to day management services and compliance with all legal and government regualtions. When possible we will be involving our contributors in endorsement events and candidate/campaign activities. ^TOPHow are the contributions made to candidates by AIDS PAC? There is a multi-step process for receiving a contribution from AIDS PAC. First, a candidate - incumbent and challenger alike - needs to fill out the AIDS PAC questionnaire, stating and explaining their positions on the various issues related to AIDS. Second, the candidate needs to sign the AIDS PAC pledge, promising to do some kind of AIDS event in their state or district with local AIDS activists and others who are fighting HIV and AIDS at the local level. Third, the candidate should have some kind of a conversation with one of the AIDS PAC Board of Directors. This way someone on the Board has some first-hand contact with the candidate, and we have found that this is essential in making a reasoned and responsible decision in determining which candidates receive contributions. ^TOPWill contributions be made regardless of the candidates' political affiliation? Yes. ADIS PAC is not concerned with any political party. We will seek to support deserving candidates without regard to party affiliation. ^TOPWill I know which candidates have received contributions from AIDS PAC? Yes. AIDS PAC publishes a biannual newsletter which will include a complete account of contributions made to candidates and pertinent political developments. ^TOPWhy should I donate to AIDS PAC? By donating to AIDS PAC you are joining with the collective strength of thousands of other people who believe that the AIDS crisis must have a progressive, long-term federal response. One person alone can make a difference, but many thousands of people together can make a tremendous impact. Join AIDS PAC in its mission to elect federal officeholders who are committed to fighting for an end to the AIDS crisis. ^TOPWhat else can I do to help AIDS PAC?
