The American AIDS Political Action Committee (AIDS PAC) is a political response to the AIDS crisis in America. We support federal candidates who are committed to an aggressive response by the Federal Government in the war on AIDS.

What is AIDS PAC?

The American AIDS Political Action Committee is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan entity that supports a progressive approach to the American AIDS crisis by the federal government.

The American AIDS Political Action Committee (AIDS PAC) was formed during the summer of 1993 to strengthen the political response to the AIDS crisis in America. We support a comprehensive approach by the Federal Government in the war on AIDS. AIDS PAC makes contributions to federal officeholders and candidates who are committed to increased funding - for AIDS research so that a cure can be found; for AIDS health care so that people with HIV can receive life-prolonging treatment; and for HIV prevention so that the deadly spread of this disease can be stopped.

Funding for AIDS PAC comes from Americans who believe that an aggressive approach to the AIDS crisis is required to overcome this epidemic. Our donors want to support the federal officeholders who are actively working towards this goal. A contribution to AIDS PAC is an opportunity to combine your voice with many thousands of other voices. The resounding message to Congress is that an aggressive and comprehensive national AIDS policy is essential.

The Politics of AIDS
AIDS is a very controversial political issue. The AIDS crisis in America, unlike many parts of the world, began primarily among homosexual men. Because of this fact, many federal officeholders have been reluctant, sadly, to discuss the AIDS crisis, much less support a comprehensive federal response. Though the AIDS epidemic continues to devastate the gay community, it increasingly afflicts heterosexuals, women, children and communities of color. The truth is that the AIDS crisis affects all Americans, whether or not they are HIV positive.

Each year Congress and the President must set priorities as they create the annual budget. AIDS PAC donors believe that U.S. spending on AIDS research, care, and prevention is and must remain a top priority. Private sector fundraising will never be adequate to replace government funding in the war on AIDS. So, AIDS PAC calls on all Americans for their support in making HIV/AIDS programs a priority for the Federal Government.
